Pastoral Care

The personal development of the pupils is a strength of the school and reflects the school’s aims to promote individual self-belief. We are committed to ensuring that every child receives the best support we can offer to help them enjoy learning and feel confident and happy. Regular meetings are held, to keep staff members informed about students’ progress and wellbeing, helping our team to provide a strong network of support for each individual.

We place strong emphasis on ensuring that students are fully rounded people, suitably qualified and equipped with the skills required for the world of work and a happy and successful life. Careers guidance at the school is provided in years 10 and 11. Students are introduced to variety of options and given full support with applications, personal statements and future decisions.

By the time pupils leave the school, they have grown in confidence and feel ready to embrace the next stage of their education, whether in further academic study or in the performing arts. They are tolerant, considerate towards each other and enthusiastic about exploring the future awaiting them.

Wellbeing

We take the wellbeing and mental health of our students seriously and have ensured that systems are in place to guarantee pupils feel safe and supported at our school. We pride ourself on our warm, and approachable atmosphere, supporting students to speak freely to members of staff without fear of judgement. A confidential room is available on site during school hours for students to speak openly to our on-site assistant psychologist, trained wellbeing practitioner or full time experienced teacher.

Trained First Aiders are always on hand at the school.

Pupil Wellbeing Champion

Pupil wellbeing champions are on hand to offer support to struggling students and refer them to a trained member of staff.

SEND Department

We recognise that pupils learn at different rates and that there are many factors that influence achievement and attainment. Regular assessments are held to ensure that those who may require support are identified. The school’s SENCO compiles IEPs, liaises with teachers and arranges extra tuition if parents request this.

Pupils are offered in-class support and extra classes may be available, depending on the needs of the individual.

Additional Needs

To ensure each pupil leads a happy and fruitful school life, small group classes, one to one’s, homework club and catch-up sessions are timetabled for pupils when necessary. Gifted and talented pupils may be fast tracked and offered additional classes in their specialities and academic and vocational teachers endeavour to ensure they take appropriate action to address each individual pupil’s needs.
